Alverno Fall to Dominican Twice

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Alverno College softball suffered a pair of losses to Dominican University this afternoon. Alverno had three hits in the opening, falling 14-2. The Inferno couldn't hold off the Stars falling 13-1.

GAME 1 | Alverno 2, Dominican 14
Maggie Wilmot (0-3) got the ball to start for Alverno College (2-5) and took the loss. Wilmot pitched four innings only allowing 14 hits and 14 runs in the 29 batters faced. 
 
Offensively, the Inferno was paced by Giselle Moreno who went 2-for-3 on the day at the plate. Senior Lexi Hess finished 1-for-3 with one run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Dominican started the game with adding five runs in the first two innings to take the lead. The Stars then plated three runs in the third to grow the lead to 8-0. In the remaining innings,  the Inferno added two runs to cut the lead but Dominican added six runs to cruise to the 14-2 victory.

GAME NOTES
» Alverno pitchers faced 28 Dominican hitters in the game, allowing 14 hits and 14 runs.
» Moreno led the Inferno at the plate, going 2-for-3. Hess finished 1-for-3 with one run.
» Dominican was led offensively by Davis, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
» Faber-Cournane led the Stars pitching staff, throwing three scoreless innings.

GAME 2 | Alverno 1, Dominican 13
The Inferno yielded a 13-1 decision to Dominican in game two.

Jocilyn Janeway (0-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Alverno College (2-6).

In the batter's box, the Inferno was paced by Giselle Moreno and Lexi Hess, who went 1-for-3 on the day

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Stars got the scoring started early, putting 10 runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Dominican then added three runs in the second to take a 13-0 lead. Alverno answered by adding its only run in the fourth inning with Dominican taking the 13-1 victory.

» Alverno pitchers faced 33 Dominican hitters in the game, allowing 14 hits, 13 runs, five walks and two strikeouts.
» The Inferno drew one walk from Dominican pitching.
» Moreno and Lexi Hess led the Inferno at the plate, going 1-for-3.

Alverno will return home for its 2024 home opener as they host the Eagles of Edgewood College for a twinbill on Monday, April 1. First pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m. at the Alverno Softball Field.
