Softball Drops a Pair on Day Two of the Gene Cusic Classic

AVE MARIA, Fla. – After racking up 14 runs over the past two games, the Alverno College Softball team was held to only one run in the doubleheader losses Ave Maria University.
 
Ave Maria University won game one, 3-1, then blanked Alverno in the nightcap, 1-9.
 
The Inferno of Alverno College took the early lead in the top of the first inning on a double by Samantha Vinti to send Giselle Moreno home. Ave Maria answered in the bottom of the inning plating two runs. Alverno was held scoreless the remaining innings of the contest.
Ave Maria added its final run of the contest in the bottom of the six inning to take the 1-3 victory.

On the mound for the Red and Black was Savannah Fierke who pitched six innings only allowing four hits, three runs and eight strikeouts in the 23 batters faced.
 
 
In the nightcap, Laura Heim and Navaeh Cruz managed to get the Inferno's lone hits.
 
Alverno took an early 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning. Ave Maria exploded for two runs in the second, one run in the third, four runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to take the 9-1 victory.  
 
Maggie Wilmot was on the mound for Alverno in the nightcap pitching four innings only allowing six hits, seven runs and three strikeouts in the 19 batters faced.
