Volleyball Takes First Set from Beloit in Non-Conference Showdown

BELOIT, Wis. – The Alverno volleyball team was back on the road on Tuesday evening, as the Inferno paid a visit to Beloit College. The Inferno took the first set, but both teams battled for the third set win, however, it was ultimately the Buccaneers that picked up the four-set win.
 
Alverno was led by senior Rolin West, who had a season-high double-double performance with 29  kills and 23 digs on the evening, and added two aces. Izzy Gianniou registered 14 assists and two kills on the evening, while Sharisty Kooch finished with 23 assists and four aces. Alverno secured the opening set victory 25-17 score; the Inferno and Buccaneers went back and forth in the opening set before the Inferno rattled off unanswered points to pull away.
 
In the second period, the two sides were once again close as Alverno came back on a mission. Alverno College took a 17-15 lead on an attack error. Beloit was able to close out the set on an attacking error to give Beloit a 25-22 victory to close out the set. The score was tied three times during the set.

The third set opened host Beloit controlling the tempo coming out with the early 4-2 lead. Both teams would battle for the lead with Alverno cutting the lead 16-15 on a service ace. Both teams would continue to battle it out for the victory but Beloit was able to take a 32-30 set victory over the Inferno. The score was tied nine times during the set.
 
After Beloit took control leading the entire fourth stanza, the Buccaneers and Inferno would battle for the lead. The host was able to take the 25-27 victory to win the match.
 
Alverno (3-13, 0-4 NACC) will be back in action on Thursday afternoon, as the Inferno travel to Mequon, Wisconsin for a conference matchup against Concordia Wisconsin for a 7 p.m. start inside R. John Buuck Field House.
