MILWAUKEE – The Alverno volleyball team takes set from conference opponent, Milwaukee School of Engineering Thursday evening.
Set 1 saw the Inferno fired up from the start, keeping the score within a two point reach early in the set. A six-point service run by Senior Izzy Gianniou brought the Inferno back to tie the set 21-21. The Inferno capitalized on attack and ball-handling errors by MSOE, winning the first set, 25-23.
MSOE answered back to losing the first set by taking the lead early in sets 2 and 3, winning 25-17 and 25-12.
The fourth set saw the Inferno have an amazing comeback, leading 9-0 with Sophomore Makiyah Buck's serving run. The Inferno stayed hot throughout the set, tying the score up, 20-20.The set continued to stay close, with both teams going back and forth with many rallies. Ultimately, the Raiders pulled ahead, winning the set and securing the match, 25-23.
The Inferno's offensive had an impressive night with a total of 34 kills, Senior Rolin West having 27 kills, along with 2 aces, 2 assists, and 14 digs. Gianniou aided on the offensive and defensive side with 30 assists, 2 aces, and 10 digs on the night. Juniors Sharisty Kooch and Breann Flannery also had a combined 20 digs to contribute to the defense.
Alverno (3-20, 0-11 NACC) head to their final road contest against Dominican University this Saturday, November 2nd, for a 12pm start!
