MILWAUKEE – The Alverno volleyball team faced another tough conference opponent of Illinois Institute of Technology this Thursday evening.
IIT gained the early lead, winning set 1, 25-11. The Inferno fought their way back in sets 2 and 3, keeping the score close until the Scarlet Hawks were able to pull ahead. During the second set, Senior Rolin West scored 3 aces in a row, gaining ground on the Scarlet Hawks' lead. Ultimately, the Scarlet Hawks were able to pull ahead winning the set, 25-18.
The third set of the match saw lots of back and forth action between both teams. Junior Dominique Tetrault's serving run was assisted by errors on the Scarlet Hawks' side. The Inferno were able to keep the score close, but the Scarlet Hawks kept their momentum, winning the third set, 25-21, and securing the win.
The Inferno's offensive and defense were fired up throughout the game, led by West with 12 kills, 4 aces, 2 blocks, and 10 digs. Senior Izzy Gianniou aided on the offensive with 11 assists on the night, along with 5 digs, and 2 kills. Tetrault secured 2 big blocks on the night as well as her serving run. Junior Sharisty Kooch also showed out with 7 digs and 2 aces.
Alverno (3-16, 0-7 NACC) are back on the road on Saturday, October 19th, heading to Rockford University for a 12pm start!
