AURORA, Ill. – Aurora University shot 50 percent (41-of-82) from the field and four starters scored in double figures as the Spartans defeated Alverno, 105-48, Saturday, Jan. 6 in Thornton Gymnasium. Aurora (11-3) has scored over one hundred points for the second straight game this season.
Alverno's only lead came at 3-2 on
Riley Spencer's three-pointer at the 8:58 mark in the first quarter. The Spartans answered securing the lead and held onto it the entire contest finishing the quarter with a 25-12 advantage.
Aurora continued to take control of the game with a 25-11 spurt to open the second quarter. AU hit 59.09 percent (13-of-22) of its field-goal attempts, including 6-of-12 from three-point range taking a 61-23 halftime lead.
The Inferno were outscored, 28-7, in the third quarter. OSU reached the second-straight game century mark in the fourth quarter and built its largest lead at 105-48 to take the victory.
Aurora outrebounded Alverno, 54-33, and outscored the Inferno in fast-break points, 24-7.
Keeshya Bellows scored a game-high 11 points to lead the Inferno. She connected on 4-of-7 field-goal attempts, including 3-of-4 from the free throw line, and grabbed five rebounds in 22 minutes.
Dionna Woodson contributed 10 points and three rebounds in 27 minutes.

Alverno will continue NACC play with a two-home game stand hosting Marian (Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.) and Lakeland (Jan. 13 at 2 p.m.).
