MILWAUKEE– Marian University's extensive offensive streaks were too much for Alverno College women's basketball to handle in an 82-61 loss inside Reiman Gymnasium this evening. The Inferno withstood an early run from the Sabres, but Marian's big second and third quarters turned the game for good. Marian University improves to 4-10 on the season and 2-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Alverno College sees its record fall to 2-12 and 0-5.

Offensive rebounds for the story of the game. While it seemed like the Sabres were hitting every shot in sight, it was actually their second-chance opportunities that spelled the end for the home team. Marian outrebounded Alverno 57-33 for the game and totaled nearly as many defensive rebounds (23) as the Inferno finished with in total.

The Sabres raced out to an 11-2 lead in the first six minutes of action and held Alverno College to only two shot attempts from the field through five minutes compared to seven turnovers for the Inferno.

Marian flipped the game in a big way in the third quarter with an incredible shooting performance from deep. The Sabres outscored the Infernos 21-15 in the period. Every time Alverno would attempt to crawl back into manageable territory, Marian would string together two to three minutes of effortless scoring to grow its lead back to double-digits.

The Inferno played well again coming out of the break as Whitten really got going in all facets in the second half. Morgan Whitten paced the Inferno offense as she finished with 18 points and seven rebounds.

However, Marian continued to shoot lights out from inside the arch in the second half while Alverno's offense thrived from three-point land.

Victoria Parra had 14 points and eight rebounds, while Bellows and Spencer chipped in a combined 21 points.

Alverno College is back in action on Saturday, January 13th was they host the Muskies of Lakeland University inside Reiman Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
