MILWAUKEE, Wis. – After a tough shooting first quarter, the Alverno College women's basketball team orchestrated a mini run to pull within 26 of the Raiders in the first half but the Inferno fell 68-23 to MSOE University Wednesday night at the Kern Center.
The loss dipped the Inferno to 2-13 overall while MSOE improves to 11-5 on the year.
Sophomore Dionna Woodson (El Paso, Texas) scored eight points off the bench to lead Alverno while sophomore Haley Youngblood (Waukesha, Wis.) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Morgan Whitten (Columbus, Miss.) finished with five points, two rebounds, one steal and one block.
Alverno shot just 18-percent (9-50) from the field, including 2-of-21 from 3-point range and 33-percent (2-6) from the free throw line. The Raiders held advantages in points in the paint (20-12), points off turnovers (18-2), second chances (14-1) and from the bench (38-8) while shooting 39-percent (25-64) from the floor, 42-percent (8-19) from the 3-point line and hitting 11-of-17 free throws.
Alverno College will return to action Saturday, Jan. 20 as they travel to River Forest, Illinois for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup against Dominican University. Game time is set for 1 p.m. inside the Igini Sports Forum.
