Inferno Host Benedictine University in Wednesday Night Matchup

MILWAUKEE – The Alverno basketball team hosted the Benedictine University Eagles on Wednesday evening inside the Reiman Gymnasium, falling to the visiting Eagles by a 67-52 score in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest.
 
Alverno was led by Dionna Woodson with 15 points, while Keeshya Bellows had 12 and Riley Spencer and Morgan Whitten had eight points apiece while Kyla Jamerson had five points and rounding out the scoring was Laila Alramahi and Haley Youngblood had two points apiece.
 
Bellows was two rebounds shy of a double-double with eight boards and also added one block on the night. Youngblood corralled eight rebounds, while Jamerson, Woodson, Kavalary, Whitten and Harris had a combined total of 19 rebounds.
 
Madalyn Kavalary and Keeshya Bellows had a total of four blocks combined. Whitten finished the contest with three assists. Bellows finished with two assists followed by Kavalary, Woodson and Harris with each adding an assist.

 
The Inferno jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with Alramahi adding one from the free throw line. Benedictine then jumped out to a 5-2 lead on a three-pointer by Claire Levedoski. Dionna Woodson answered with a basket to tie the game seven all. The Eagles would add six additional points to take a 13-7 lead into the second quarter.
 
After Benedictine opened the second quarter with a jumper, the Inferno got the lead back down 10 on two occasions but the Eagles led by a 31-21 score at the halftime break.
 
After the Eagles scored the first basket of the second half, the Inferno had back-to-back baskets er by Bellows and Spencer followed by a jumper from Woodson to get the home team back within 12, the Eagles responded with 11 points to close the quarter and led by a 55-38 score heading into the final period.
 
Alverno closed out the game by outscoring Benedictine, 14-12 but came up short with Benedictine coming away with the 67-52 victory.
 
Alverno (2-10, 0-3 NACC) will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when the Inferno travel to face Aurora University at 1 p.m. inside Thornton Gymnasium.
