MEQUON, Wis. – The Alverno basketball team traveled to the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons on Wednesday evening falling to the hosting Falcons by a 62-43 score in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest.
Alverno was led by senior
Keeshya Bellows with 10 points, while two teammates had six points apiece including
Riley Spencer and
Shiauna Nixon-Boyd.
Laila Alramahi and
Morgan Whitten had five points each, while
Dionna Woodson and
Victoria Parra finished with four and three points, and
Madalyn Kavalary and
Kyla Jamerson had two points apiece.
Bellows had three boards and also added two blocks on the night. Woodson corralled six rebounds and had two assists and one block, while Whitten and Jamerson each had four boards.
The Falcons jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before Bellows got the Inferno on the board with a jumper. Concordia regained the lead, but Alverno trimmed the deficit to three after Kavalary added two from the free throw line. Concordia's lead swelled to 11 late in the period as the Falcons led 21-10 into the second quarter.
After Concordia opened the second quarter with a layup, the Inferno got the lead back down five on two occasions but the Falcons led by a 31-23 score at the halftime break.
After the Falcons scored the first basket of the second half, the Inferno had a layup by
Dionna Woodson followed by a layup from Alramahi to get the home team back within six, the Falcons responded with seven points to close the quarter and led by a 44-30 score heading into the final period.
Concordia closed out the game by outscoring Alverno, 18-13 to come away with the 62-43 victory.
Alverno (3-14, 1-7 NACC) will be back in action on Saturday evening, when the Inferno play host to the Edgewood Eagles at 7 p.m. inside Reiman Gymnasium.
