MILWAUKEE, Wis. —Alverno College Volleyball dropped two matches today in the first games of the season at the Blue Angel Bash hosted by Mount Mary University. The Inferno opened the Bash with a 3-1 loss to host Mount Mary University, before losing to Lawrence in the day's finale.
The Inferno fall to 0-2 on the season.
MMU 3 – 1 Alverno College: 25-12, 25-21, 25-12, 25-15
The Blue Angels controlled the tempo in the first set cruising to a 25-13 victory. The Alverno College Inferno answered in the second set finding its grove to take the 25-23 victory. Both teams would battle for the third set but the host once again found its grove to take the 25-13 third set victory. Mount Mary then closed out the contest with a 25-15
Rolin West (New Orleans, La.) opened the season leading the team and collecting her first double-double performance with 13 kills and 16 digs. Izzy Gianniou setup a season high 20 assistants and five digs. Senior Selena Upshur finished with seven kills, one block solo and eight digs.
Lawrence 3 – 0 Alverno College: 25-23, 25-17, 25-18
The first set was a very close one as both teams battled back and forth for the lead with Lawrence taking a 25-23 victory. The remaining sets followed a similar trajectory as the opening match for the Inferno, but the decision was in favor of Lawrence taking both sets with a 25-17 and 25-18 victory.
Upshur was the top offensive player for the Inferno in the second match collecting her first double-double performance of the season with 11 kills and 13 digs. Sharisty Kooch collected 16 digs. Izzy Gianniou had her first double-double performance with 22 assists and 13 digs.
Alverno College will return to the court tomorrow to close out the Blue Angels Bash with matches against Maranatha Baptist at 11:45 a.m. and Ripon at 2 p.m.
