MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Alverno soccer team hosted its home opener against the Blackburn College Beavers on Friday afternoon and fell by the score of 4-2.
Alverno was led by freshman Mamah Konneh, who scored both goals of the contest in the second half but wasn't enough bringing the final score to 4-2. Five Infernos finished the contest recording at least one goal.
In goal senior Georgia Wise made 12 stops on the afternoon while allowing the four goals by the Beavers.
Konneh got the Inferno on the board in the second half at the 50:35 mark sending a shot to beat the Beavers goalkeeper to help but the lead 2-1.
In the second half the Beavers were able to even the score once again at the 56:05 mark of the game on a strong shot by Libby Adams to grow the lead 3-1.
Blackburn scored one more in the span of the remaining minutes to put the game out of reach at a 4-2 margin as the Inferno. The Beavers had 26 total shots to Alverno's 25.
Alverno (0-2) will get back to action on Wednesday afternoon, when they travel across town for a matchup against MSOE for a 5:00 pm start at Viets Field.
