MADISON, Wis. – The Alverno volleyball team was back on the road on Thursday evening, as the Inferno paid a visit to Edgewood College. The Inferno dropped the first set, but came back to win the second, however, it was ultimately the Eagles that picked up the four-set win.
Alverno was led by junior
Rolin West, who had a team-high 15 kills on the evening, and added seven digs.
Izzy Gianniou registered 28 assists on the evening, while
Selena Upshur collected 11 kills and eight digs.
Alverno dropped the opening set with a 25-12 score; the Inferno and Eagles went back and forth in the opening set before the Eagles rattled off unanswered points to pull away.
In the second period, the two sides were once again close as Alverno came back on a mission. Alverno College took a 6-4 lead on a service ace. Alverno advanced its lead 23-19 on an attacking error by Edgewood.
Izzy Gianniou was able to close out the set on a service ace to give the Inferno a 25-19 victory to close out the set.
The third set opened host Edgewood controlling the tempo coming out with the early lead. Both teams would battle for the lead with Alverno cutting the lead 8-6 on a service error by Edgewood. The Eagles would then cruise to take a 25-15 set victory over the Inferno.
After Edgewood took control leading the entire fourth stanza, the Eagles pulled ahead early taking the lead and then cruised to the 25-8 victory to win the match.
Alverno (0-6, 0-1 NACC) will be back in action on Tuesday evening, as the Inferno hosting its home season opener as they host Lawrence University for a 7 p.m. start inside Reiman Gymnasium.
