Alverno Fall to Wisconsin Lutheran College Twice

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Alverno College softball scored 10 runs in the day's nightcap but suffered a pair of losses to Wisconsin Lutheran during senior day at home. Alverno had seven hits in the opening, falling 4-3. However, after an explosive start in the second game, the Inferno couldn't hold off the Warriors down the stretch, falling 17-10.
 
 
GAME 1 | Alverno 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 4
Natalie Akin (2-11) got the ball to start for Alverno College (4-28) and took the loss. Akins pitched all innings only allowing seven hits, four runs, four walks and four strikeouts in the 32 batters faced. 
 
Offensively, the Inferno was paced by Andrea Ramirez who went 2-for-3 on the day at the plate. Lexi Hess and Sam Marchant both finished the contest by hitting one out of the park recording their first home run of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams started the contest remaining scoreless in the first three innings. Wisconsin Lutheran started the scoring in the fourth inning adding one run to take a 1-0 lead.  Alverno answered in the bottom of the fifth inning when Sam Marchant hit her first home run of the season to tie the score one all. Next Giselle Moreno singled to left field scoring Lexi Hess to give Alverno a 2-1 lead. WLC and Alverno would not score in the sixth inning. In the final inning, the Warriors were able to collect three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Alverno despite a great effort was able to plate one run but wasn't enough with the Warriors taking the 4-3 victory.

GAME NOTES
» Alverno pitchers faced 33 Wisconsin Lutheran hitters in the game, allowing seven hits, four runs, four walks and four strikeouts.
» Ramirez led the Inferno at the plate, going 2-for-3.
» Lexi Hess ad Sam Marchant collected their first home run of the season.
» Wisconsin Lutheran was led offensively by Martin, who went 2-for-2 with one RBI.
» Terrill led the Warrior pitching staff, throwing five scoreless innings.

GAME 2 | Alverno 5, Wisconsin Lutheran 16
The Inferno put up five runs, but could not hold the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors at bay, dropping an 16-5 decision.

Maggie Wilmot (0-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Alverno College (4-29).

In the batter's box, the Inferno was paced by Giselle Moreno, who went 2-for-3 on the day. Natalie Akin finished going 2-for-2 at the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Wisconsin Lutheran added six runs in the top of the second inning to grow the lead to 8-0.

Alverno answered in the bottom plating three runs. Andrea Ramirez singled to right field to score Torres. Samantha Vinti reached on a fielder's choice plating Natalie Akin. Lexi Hess singled to left field scoring Emily Anguiano to cut the lead 8-3. The Warriors added three additional runs in advance the lead 11-3. The Red & Black answered in the bottom plating two runs to cut the lead 11-5. WLC then plated five runs in the remaining inning to take the 16-5 victory.

»Alverno College's highest-scoring inning was the second, when it pushed three runs across.
» Alverno pitchers faced 35 WLC hitters in the game, allowing 18 hits, 16 runs, one walk and four strikeouts.
