MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Alverno College softball scored five runs in the day's nightcap but suffered a pair of losses to Edgewood at home. Alverno had two hits in the opening, falling 4-0. However, after an explosive start in the second game, the Inferno couldn't hold off the Eagles down the stretch, falling 7-5.
GAME 1 | Alverno 0, Edgewood 4
Natalie Akin (2-12) got the ball to start for Alverno College (4-30) and took the loss. Akins pitched all innings only allowing five hits, four runs, five walks and one strikeout in the 30 batters faced.
Offensively, the Inferno was paced by
Natalie Akin and
Hailie Eschbach who went 1-for-3 on the day at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Edgewood started the scoring by plating one run. The Eagles would remain scoreless until the sixth inning when they added another run to take a 2-0 lead. Edgewood was then able to add two additional runs to take the 4-0 victory.
GAME 2 | Alverno 5, Edgewood 7
The Inferno put up five runs, but could not hold the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors at bay, dropping an 16-5 decision.
Maggie Wilmot (0-5) started and took the loss in the circle for Alverno College (4-29).
In the batter's box, the Inferno was paced by
Giselle Moreno, who went 2-for-3 on the day.
Natalie Akin finished going 2-for-2 at the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the first two innings. Edgewood added two additional runs to take a 4-0 at the top of the fourth inning. Alverno answered in the bottom when
Emily Anguiano singled to center field to plate
Giselle Moreno.
Sam Marchant singled to center field scoring
Izzy Torres to cut the lead 4-2. EC then added three runs to grow its lead 7-2. The Inferno answered in the bottom of the fifth when
Giselle Moreno secured a home run. Emily then singled to right field plating Torres to cut the lead 7-4. Alverno added its final run of the contest when
Giselle Moreno collected her second home run of the day but fell 7-5 in the nightcap.

Alverno College will return to action on Sunday, May 7th as they travel to Mequon, Wisconsin for a conference doubleheader against Concordia Wisconsin. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. at Catalyst Park.
