MILWAUKEE, Wis. (April 15, 2023) – Alverno College softball team fell in doubleheader action to the Sabers of Marian University this afternoon at the Alverno Softball Field.
Alverno 8, Marian 20 (F/5)
Marian got on the board first adding a run in the top of the first take a brief lead. Alverno answered in the bottom of the inning when
Giselle Moreno singled to
Cyd Guillaume.
Dominique Tetrault next doubled scoring Torres and Moreno with Alverno taking a 1-3 lead.
Andrea Ramirez singled to score Tetrault to close out the scoring in the bottom of the first with a 4-1 lead.
Marian answered with a big second inning plating nine runs to take a 10-4 lead.
Cyd Guillaume answered for the Inferno when she hit her first home run of the season to cut the score 10-5. The Sabers then added six runs in the third inning. The Inferno would be held scoreless for the next two innings.
Marian plated four total runs in the remaining innings to take the 20-8 victory. In the final inning
Izzy Torres hit one out of the park her fourth home run of the season.
Sam Marchant tripled to left field to plate a run. The Inferno final run was added when
Samantha Vinti singled to score Marchant.
Cyd Guillaume finished the contest going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Samantha Vinti all finished going 1-for-2 at the plate respectively.
Alverno finished the contest with 10 hits.
Izzy Torres pitched all innings for the Red & Black only allowing 16 hits, 20 runs, 11 walks and two strikeouts in 42 batters faced.
Alverno 3, Marian 11 (F/5)
Alverno managed three runs on five hits with four different Inferno recording a hit.
Senior
Izzy Torres was the first Inferno to cross home when she secured her second home run of the day scoring
Lexi Hess to cut the lead 3-2.
Marian added a run in the top of the second inning to take a 4-2 lead. The Inferno was held scoreless in the bottom of the second inning. The Sabers added two additional runs in the third innings to take a 6-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning,
Giselle Moreno collected her first home run of the season to make the score 7-3.
Marian then would add five total runs to take the victory in the remaining innings.
Lexi Hess and
Giselle Moreno finished the contest going 1-for-3 at the plate.
Nevaeh Cruz started things off for Alverno on the mount pitching two innings only allowing six hits, four runs and one walk in the 15 batters faced. Closing things out for Alverno was
Dominique Tetrault who pitched three innings only allowing nine hits, seven runs, one walk and four strikeouts in the 19 batters faced.
Alverno finished the contest collecting five hits.
