MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Alverno softball team yielded a split decision (L: 12-1, W: 10-9) to the Muskies of Lakeland University this afternoon at home. With the victory, the Inferno improve to 4-16, 1-7 in league play. Alverno College snaps a 44 conference game losing streak in addition to a straight 12 game losing streak. The last home victory for Alverno College was on April 21, 2018, where the Inferno collected 5-4 victories over Lakeland.
Alverno accounted for three hits in game one. Both teams started the game remaining scoreless until the top of the third inning when Lakeland added two runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Muskies grew its lead in the top of the third inning when they plated three more runs to take a 5-0 lead. Alverno answered the bottom of the inning when
Lexi Hess collected her first collegiate home run to cut the lead 5-1. Lakeland would then add seven additional runs in the contest to take the 12-1 victory in five innings.
Giselle Moreno recorded a double in the contest.
Sam Marchant also collected a hit for Alverno.
On the mound for Alverno was
Izzy Torres who pitched all five innings only allowing 15 hits, 12 runs, three walks and six strikeouts in the 32 batters faced.
In the nightcap, Lakeland got on the board first plating six runs in the opening inning. Alverno answered in the bottom of the inning starting with a single to right field by
Giselle Moreno adding the runners and
Lexi Hess scoring.

Andrea Ramirez when hit her first home run of the season recording 3 RBI's bringing two across home plate. The Red and Black closed out the first inning cutting the lead 6-5.
Lakeland would add two in the second to grow the lead 8-5.
Izzy Torres answered for Alverno in the bottom of the third inning recording her third home run of the season to bring the score 8-6. The Red and Black had a big fourth inning when

Emily Anguiano closed out the inning with a single scoring
Izzy Torres to bring the score to 10-8.
A late rally from Lakeland wasn't enough as they plated to its final run in the final inning falling 10-9 to Alverno College.
Nevaeh Cruz had an impressive game on the mound pitching six innings only allowing six hits, three runs and five strikeouts in the 26 batters faced. With the victory, Cruz collects her first collegiate win on the mound.
Natalie Akin started things off pitching an inning only allowing five hits, six runs, one walk and one strikeout in the 10 batters faced.
Alverno College will return to action on Thursday, April 13, 2023 as they host Mount Mary University in doubleheader action. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
