NAPLES, Fla. – The Alverno College softball team dropped a pair of games (9-2, 13-1) on day four of the Gene Cusic Classic at North Collier Regional Park to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and Haverford College.
Game 1 -- Alverno 2, Pitt-Bradford 9
In the first game of the day the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford took a 9-2 victory over the Inferno of Alverno College. Alverno cranked out five hits and scored two runs in the first two innings.
Halie Eschbach had a big day at the plate, racking up one run and was one of four Infernos to have at least one hit.

Natalie Akin,
Izzy Torres and Cydney Guillaume all finished going 3-for-1 at the plate.
Eschbach started the scoring in the bottom of the first with a one-run single. Alverno added its final run in the bottom of the second when
Dominique Tetrault grounded out to the second baseman to bring
Izzy Torres home recording an RBI for a 2-0 lead.
Pitt-Bradford answered in the top of the third inning adding six run to take a 6-2 lead. In the fourth inning, the Panthers pushed its lead to 8-2 adding two runs. Pitt-Bradford would close out the contest adding its final run in the fifth inning to take the victory.
Alverno finished the contest collecting five hits while the Panthers finished with 11 hits.
Natalie Akin had an impressive game on the mound for Alverno pitching all seven innings only allowing nine runs, four walks, 11 hits and four strikeouts in the 40 batters faced.
Game 1 -- Alverno 1, Haverford 13
In the nightcap, Haverford took a 13-1 victory over the Inferno of Alverno College. Alverno cranked out seven hits in the contest.
Halie Eschbach had a big day at the plate and was one of six Infernos to have at least one hit.
Sam Marchant and
Emily Anguiano finished going 3-for-1 at the plate.
Izzy Torres,
Samantha Vinti and
Andrea Ramirez were 2-for-1 at the plate.
Torres started the scoring in the bottom of the first with a one-run double its first and final run of the contest for a 1-0 lead.
Haverford answered in the bottom of the first inning adding three runs to cut the lead to 3-1. The lead was advanced by Haverford in the bottom of the second inning plating six runs to extend the lead to 9-1. In the third and fourth innings, Haverford pushed its lead to 13-1 adding two runs in each inning to take the victory.
Alverno finished the contest collecting seven hits while Haverford finished with 13 hits.
Nevaeh Cruz started the game on the mound for Alverno pitching one inning only allowing nine hits, nine runs and two walks in the 16 batters faced.
Maggie Wilmot finished things on the mound for the Red and Black pitching two innings only allowing four runs, four walks and four hits in the 15 batters faced.

Alverno will close out the Gene Cusic Classic on Friday, March 10
th with contests against Grove City on field two at 11 am followed by a matchup with SUNY Brockport at 1 p.m. on field two.
