Basketball Dealt 81-41 Setback by Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE– Wisconsin Lutheran extensive offensive streaks were too much for Alverno College women's basketball to handle in an 81-44 loss inside Reiman Gymnasium this evening. The Inferno withstood an early run from the Warriors, but Wisconsin Lutheran's big second and third quarters turned the game for good. Wisconsin Lutheran improves to 16-6 on the season and 13-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Alverno College sees its record fall to 2-19 and 0-15.

Offensive rebounds for the story of the game. While it seemed like the Warriors were hitting every shot in sight, it was actually their second-chance opportunities that spelled the end for the home team. Wisconsin Lutheran outrebounded Alverno 48-32 for the game and totaled nearly as many defensive rebounds (38) as the Inferno finished with in total.

The Warriors raced out to a 11-2 lead in the first six minutes of action and held Alverno College to only two shot attempt from the field through five minutes compared to seven turnovers for the Inferno.

Wisconsin Lutheran flipped the game in a big way in the second quarter with an incredible shooting performance from deep. The Warriors outscored the Infernos 23-13 in the period, mainly due to making five of their six attempts from the free throw line. Every time Alverno would attempt to crawl back into manageable territory, WLC would string together two to three minutes of effortless scoring to grow its lead back to double-digits.

The Inferno played well again coming out of the break as Whitten really got going in all facets in the second half. Morgan Whitten paced the Inferno offense as she finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

However, Wisconsin Lutheran continued to shoot lights out from three-point land in the second half while Alverno's offense thrived inside the arch in the half court.

Victoria Parra secured nine points and one rebound, while Sardin chipped in eight points and seven rebounds.

Alverno College is back in action on Saturday, February 11th in its final home game of the regular season as they host the Regents of Rockford University inside Reiman Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
