Inferno Stuff Regents on Senior Day, 59-53

MILWAUKEE (February 11, 2023)Mya Roberts posted 21 points and two rebounds tonight as the Inferno outscored the visiting Regents of Rockford University 18-13 in the fourth quarter to capture a 59-53 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win in action from Reiman Gymnasium.

The win for the Inferno (3-19, 1-15 NACC) snap an 11 game losing streak, but it didn't come easily as Alverno led 41-40 going to the fourth quarter. Zahradka would score the first points of the final stanza to give Inferno a 43-40 lead. After the Regents continued to add points to cut the lead 55-51 with three minutes left to go. Rockfrord answered adding its final two points of the contest from the free throw line. Alverno's Kyla Jamerson and Mya Roberts added the final points for the Inferno to clinch the victory over the visitors. 

The contest was tight through the early going of the first half with both team fighting for the lead. The visitors finished the first quarter securing a 14-4 lead. Alverno rallied back to tie the contest 16 all at the 5:43 mark. The Inferno advanced its lead to 27-20 on a layup by Camiria Sardin with 1:34 left in the quarter. Rockford tied the contest with 00:08 left in the quarter on a three-pointer by Jocelyn Callahan. The Regents and Inferno saw the score tied at 27 all at the half. 

The Inferno and Regents handed the lead back and forth through the middle of the third period, while Mya Roberts secured a three pointer with 7:00 to go in the frame to tie the game at 33. Alverno closed out the scoring on a layup by Camiria Sardin to put Inferno ahead 41-40 heading in the fourth quarter. 

Kyla Jamerson posted 11 points and four rebounds in the 24 minutes played. Riley Spencer finished with eight points and four assists. Morgan Whitten, Mariah Smith and Jewel Zahradka all contributed five points each respectively.  
 

Alverno finished shooting 40 percent from the field, and was strong at the free throw line as it was 17-of-25 (68 percent) on the evening. Alverno held a 20-8 edge in bench points. The Inferno also forced 13 turnovers and collected 10 points off turnovers.

Katie Paredes finished with a game-high 24 points, pulling in 10 rebounds in a double-double performance for the Regents, while Terhune tallied 10 points as well in the loss. Rockford was 21-of-68 (30.9 percent) from the field while also shooting six-of-13 (46.2 percent) from the charity stripe. 

Alverno will be right back in action Wednesday night in Mequon, Wisconsin, taking on Concordia Wisconsin College at 7 p.m.
