Basketball Dealt 83-41 Setback by Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. – Carthage University's extensive offensive streaks were too much for Alverno College women's basketball to handle in an 83-41 loss inside Tarble Arena this afternoon. The Inferno withstood an early run from the Firebirds, but Carthage's big first and third quarters turned the game for good. Carthage improves to 4-2 on the season. Alverno College sees its record fall to 1-3 on the young season.

Defensive rebounds for the story of the game. While it seemed like the Firebirds were hitting every shot in sight, it was actually their second-chance opportunities that spelled the end for the visiting team. Carthage outrebounded Alverno 44-27 for the game.

Carthage started the game in a big way with an incredible shooting performance from deep. The Firebirds outscored the Infernos 30-13 in the period, mainly due to making two of their three attempts from the free throw line. Every time Alverno would attempt to crawl back into manageable territory, Carthage would string together two to three minutes of effortless scoring to grow its lead back to double-digits.

The Inferno played well again coming out of the break as Whitten really got going in all facets in the second half. Morgan Whitten paced the Inferno offense as she finished with eight points and one rebound.

However, Carthage continued to shoot lights out from three-point land in the second half while Alverno's offense thrived inside the arch in the half court.

Laila Alramahi secured 13 points and four rebounds, while Riley Spencer chipped in 12 points and three rebounds.

Alverno College is back in action on Saturday, December 2nd traveling to Chicago, Illinois for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup against the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Institute of Technology. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
