Volleyball Tripped Up by UW-Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. -The Alverno volleyball team closed out one of two road games remaining of its 2023 season with a trip to UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday evening and dropped a three-set match by the scores of 25-10, 25-12 and 25-8.

The Titans stymied the Inferno offense, holding Alverno to just 12 kills on the match led by senior Selena Upshur and junior Rolin West with three kills apiece. Anabella Vik and Dominique Tetrault also had one kill on the evening.

The Inferno had two aces while Izzy Gianniou led the team with 10 assists. Rolin West had a team-best 17 digs, while Upshur had 10 digs. Alverno had two blocks overall on the night with a solo block by Gianniou and Tetrault.

After dropping the first set by a 25-10 margin, Alverno and UW-Oshkosh were battled for the lead early in the set with the Inferno cutting the lead 2-1 following a service error by the Titans. The Inferno were able to keep the set close at the 4-2 mark before UW-Oshkosh Tech scored unanswered points to grow its lead.

The Titans went on a 4-0 run capped off by service ace and a kill by the host. However, the Titans closed out the set on a 5-0 run to pick up the two-set to none lead at 25-12.

Rolin West started off the third set with a kill, followed by an attack error by the Titans to put Alverno up by a 2-0 score. The scored was tied three all on a service error. A 16-1 run by the Titans gave the home team a 24-8 lead.

A late burst by Alverno in the third set fell short as the Inferno was answered by four straight kills by UW-Oshkosh as the Titans took the three-set victory.

Alverno (2-21, 0-12 NACC) will next travel to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin for a conference matchup against the Sabers of Marian University on Thursday evening. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
