LISLE, Ill. – The Alverno College Inferno basketball team traveled to Benedictine University Saturday night where they fell to the Eagles 62-29 inside the Rice Center.
Mya Roberts and
Mariah Smith both finished with eight points each respectively, while five came from
Camiria Sardin.
Riley Spencer contributed four points and four rebounds. Rounding out the scoring for Alverno College as
Morgan Golabowski and
Kyla Jamerson with two points each.
Freshman
Mariah Smith (Kenosha, Wis.) led the Inferno in scoring with eight points and two rebounds on the evening.
Mya Roberts (Grand Rapids, Minn.) finished the night second on the team with eight points and one rebound, while the team lead was held by freshman
Camiria Sardin, who ended the night with 11 boards and five points, while also chipping in two steals.
Benedictine University jumped out to a quick start, which was thwarted on a free throw by
Mya Roberts to trim the early deficit to 4-1. Benedictine took a 17-7 lead into the second quarter, where Roberts got the scoring started with a jumper at the 9:04 mark. Later in the quarter,
Kyla Jamerson drained a jumper as Alverno headed into the break down by a 33-19 score.
The Eagles extended their lead to as many as 27 in the third quarter, before swelling to 33 in the fourth quarter. The Inferno were able to penetrate the Benedictine defense later in the contest and scored six points in the fourth quarter as the Eagles won 62-29.
Alverno (2-14, 0-10 NACC) will next travel to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin for a conference matchup against Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday, January 25. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. inside Recreation Complex.
