MILWAUKEE – The Alverno softball team made its long-awaited home debut on Monday afternoon, hosting #16 Concordia Wisconsin on the Alverno Softball Field. The Inferno fell in the opener by a 15-0 score in six innings, before the team dropped the second game by an 8-0 margin in five innings.

The Inferno mustered four hits in the opener, with two more coming in the night cap. Senior
Natalie Akin had two singles in the opener, while sophomore
Lexi Hess connected on a screaming line-drive double in the opener before adding a base knock in the second game. Freshman
Cora Younk had a base hit in the opener, while classmate
Samantha Vinti registered a single in game two.

Akin got the start in the opener and needed 117 pitches to get through 5 1/3 inning as she struck out three Falcons, junior
Izzy Torres came on to strike out two batters to close out the pitching for the Inferno in the opener.

Torres tossed 114 pitches in game two and struck out a pair to give her 20 strikeouts over her 34 1/3 innings of work on the season.

In the opener, Concordia Wisconsin scored two runs in the second inning as the score held going to the top of the fifth. The Falcons added four more in the fifth and had a nine-run sixth inning to put the game out of reach.

In the second contest of the afternoon, the Falcons picked up one run in the top of the opening frame before adding four in the third, a pair in the fourth and one more in the fifth to sweep the afternoon with an 8-0 victory.

Alverno (0-14, 0-10) will head on the road this Saturday, when the Inferno take on the Marian Sabres from Smith Field in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. First pitch on Saturday afternoon will take place at 12 p.m.
