All Inferno Score in Home Conference Opener against Concordia Chicago

MILWAUKEE – The Alverno basketball team hosted the Concordia Chicago Cougars on Saturday evening, as the Inferno opened up the home portion of its NACC schedule. Alverno fell in the contest by an 85-50 score.
 
The Inferno were led by freshman Camiria Sardin, who had 11 points and a team-best eight rebounds and also added one block and an assists. Junior Mya Roberts was second on the team with eight points and also led the Inferno with five assists to go along with one steal.

Freshman Riley Spencer had a team-high four steals, and collected five points with two assists and a rebound. Junior Victoria Parra added eight points on 4-of-8 shooting and crashed the boards for six rebounds. Freshman Morgan Whitten had four points and four rebounds with two assists, while sophomore Jewel Zahradka tallied three points and was amongst the team leaders with seven rebounds.
 
Freshman Tyee Rhodes had six points and four rebounds with one block and a steal, while classmate Mariah Smith rounded out the Inferno lineup with five points to go along with two steals an assist and one rebound.
 
Alverno opened up the game with three-pointers by Roberts, Zahradka and Spencer to take a 9-4 lead at the 7:49 mark, but the high-octave Cougar offense regained the lead on back-to-back three-pointers before Roberts drilled another long-range shot to put Alverno up by a 12-10 score.
 
An 11-2 run by Concordia Chicago sparked the Cougars to a seven-point advantage at 21-14 before Alverno cut the deficit following a jumper by Sardin and a layup by Parra. Concordia Chicago closed out the period on a 7-0 run to take a 10-point lead into the second quarter.
 
After Concordia Chicago's lead swelled to 70-36 after the initial 30 minutes, the Inferno played a closer contest in the fourth quarter with just a one-point difference in the team scoring in the final 10 minutes of play as the Cougars ran away with the game for the 85-50 win.
 
Alverno (1-5, 0-2 NACC) will be back at home on Wednesday evening, as the Inferno will host the Lakeland Muskies for a 7 p.m. start inside the Reiman Gymnasium.
