MADISON, Wis. – The Alverno Basketball team was back on the road this Saturday at the Todd Wehr Edgedome in Madison to take on the Edgewood Eagles, but fell by a score of 85-49.

The Inferno were led by freshman
Camiria Sardin who shot better than 50% from the field as she led the team with both 14 points and seven rebounds and also chipped in with an assist on the offensive side of the ball. Junior
Mya Roberts had nine points and had a team-best four assists while also grabbing four rebounds.

Sophomore
Jewel Zahradka once again crashed the boards hard and pulled down six rebounds, while classmate
Olivia Daugherty also had five caroms to go along with two assists and one point. Freshman
Morgan Whitten continued to put up points with another eight on the afternoon to go along with one assist and one rebounds.

Freshman
Mariah Smith contributed to the effort with six points and two boards, while classmates
Kyla Jamerson and
Tyee Rhodes each had four points on the game. Junior
Victoria Parra chimed in with three points and two rebounds, while freshman
Riley Spencer had one rebound and was tied with three others for the team lead in steals with one apiece.

Sardin lifted the lid on the scoring as the Inferno won the tip as the freshman laid the ball in for the early 2-0 lead. After Edgewood scored the next four points, Sardin picked up another basket to knot the score at four. The Inferno trailed by four, but a layup by Whitten answered the four-point run by Edgewood but the Eagles closed out the quarter on an 8-3 run, as Whitten drained the late three off a dish by Sardin to keep the Inferno within three scores at 18-11 after the opening stanza.

The Eagles scored the first 13 points of the second quarter to take a 20-point lead at 31-11 but another Whitten three-ball ended the rally. After another layup by Edgewood, Parra knocked down a three-pointer to pull the Inferno within 16. After a jumper by the Eagles, it was Smith's turn to get in on the action with a three-pointer to get Alverno within five scores at the 4:14 mark of the second quarter. Edgewood closed out the quarter on an 11-3 run to take a 46-23 lead into the locker room.

Alverno was only outscored by three points in the third quarter, as Sardin had the first three baskets of the half for the Inferno while Jamerson connected on a layup midway through the period. Sardin and Roberts each had layups in the closing minutes of the quarter, before Roberts drained a three-pointer with under a minute to go. Edgewood cashed in a late layup to send the game into the fourth with Alverno trailing, 64-38.

The Eagles ran away late with the game and capped off the contest with its largest lead of the night as Edgewood picked up the 36-point win.

Alverno (1-7, 0-4 NACC) will be back in action on Tuesday evening for its final road game of 2022, when the Inferno play at the Lawrence Vikings beginning at 7 p.m. at Alexander Gymnasium.
