Shooting Woes Doom Basketball in Conference Opener at MSOE

MILWAUKEE – The Alverno basketball team opened up Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Wednesday evening at the Kern Center in downtown Milwaukee, falling to host MSOE by the score of 62-31.

The Inferno were only able to muster a season-low 22.6% from the field, including just one of 18 from beyond the arc in the 31-point output. Alverno was outrebounded by just six at a 43-37 margin, but turned the ball over on 21 occasions to MSOE's 16 giveaways.

Junior Mya Roberts and freshman Adrianna Sapp were the only two Inferno to score more than one field goal on the night as the pair each connected on three from the floor, including Roberts' lone three-pointer for the team on the night. Roberts ended the night with nine points and two assists, while Sapp finisher her evening with six points and four rebounds.

Sophomore Jewel Zahradka had three points, while junior Victoria Parra along with freshmen Kelia Bolds, Kyla Jamerson, Camiria Sardin, Mariah Smith, and Morgan Whitten each had two points on the night, sophomore Olivia Daugherty had one made free throw.

Jamerson led the Inferno with seven rebounds, while Roberts led with two assists. Roberts and Zahradka each had a team-best two steals, while freshman Tyee Rhodes was credited with the team's lone block of the night.

In the first 10 minutes, the Inferno hung with the Raiders and trailed 17-13, but MSOE controlled the middle 20 minutes of play as it outscored Alverno by a 39-8 margin. In the fourth quarter, Alverno scored 10 points to MSOE's six.

Alverno (1-4, 0-1 NACC) resumes conference play on Saturday evening, as the Inferno play host to the Concordia Chicago Cougars at 7 p.m. inside Reiman Gymnasium.
