Box Score MADISON, Wis. – After nearly a month off between winter break and a health & safety shutdown, the Alverno basketball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon as the Inferno took on the Edgewood Eagles at the Todd Wehr Edgedome, falling to the host Eagles by an 83-28 margin.

Freshman
Lauryn Hilliard led the Inferno with eight points, while classmate
Morgan Golabowski was second on the team with seven points. Junior
Angie Reutgen connected on four points, while sophomore
Courtney Zarda and freshman
Jewel Zahradka finished the game with three points apiece. Sophomore
Kiara Ellison had two points, while senior
Dom Hudson wrapped up the scoresheet with one point.

Zahradka led the Inferno with nine rebounds, while Hilliard had seven and Golabowski added six. Hilliard and Zahradka each had one block apiece, while Golabowski had two steals and Hilliard added two. Golabowski also led the Inferno with two assists on the game, while Zarda and Reutgen each had one.

The Inferno got off to a slow start as the Eagles jumped out to a nine-point lead to open the game. Alverno scored the next three points as Hudson picked up one free throw, followed by a pair from Hilliard. After four points by the Eagles, Alverno responded as Zarda drilled a long-range shot follow by a free throw from Golabowski to pull the Inferno within six with just over two minutes remaining.

Edgewood closed out the opening quarter on a six-point run to take a 19-7 lead into the second quarter. The Eagles continued the run with a three-pointer to take a 15-point advantage.

Reutgen got the scoring going in the second quarter for the Inferno as she connected on a jumper off of a pass by Zarda. After four by Edgewood, Zahradka connected on a contested layup under the basket to connect on her first points for the game. A 10-point rally by the Eagles was answered by a short-range jumper by Hilliard to close out the first-half scoring at 36-13 in favor of Edgewood.

The Eagles opened up the scoring with six in the second half, followed by a pair of free throws from Golabowski. The Inferno got a pair of layups from Reutgen and Hilliard to close out the Alverno scoring in the third quarter with the Eagles ahead by 33 heading into the final quarter.

Ellison got on the scoresheet in the fourth quarter with a jumper, while Golabowski added a pair of layups. The Inferno scored the final three points of the game as Zahradka had one free throw and Hilliard made a layup as the Inferno fell by the 83-28 score.

Alverno (1-11, 0-5 NACC) will return home for its next three games beginning with Illinois Tech on Tuesday evening, as the Inferno welcome in the Scarlet Hawks for a 7 p.m. tip inside Reiman Gymnasium. Please note that there will be limited capacity inside Reiman Gymnasium, with the first 150 spectators permitted to attend.
