MILWAUKEE – The Alverno soccer team played host to the MSOE Raiders on Saturday afternoon, hosting its crosstown foe on the Alverno Soccer Field. Despite a stout effort by the Inferno defensively, it was ultimately the Raiders to come away with an 8-0 win.
Â
The Inferno played a strong defensive contest, frustrating the MSOE squad throughout the 90 minute contest.
Â
Alverno's backline primarily consisted of senior
Angela Chobanian, junior
Katie Shipley, sophomore
Margarita Navarro, along with freshmen
Muriah Alejandrino and
Georgia Wise. The midfield unit also had a large hand in thwarting additional offensive efforts by senior
Aimee Espino, juniors
Alo Cervantes and
Ashley Flores, and freshman
Sydney Blau, while freshman
Yedelmys Ayala played atop the Inferno formation.
Â
In goal, junior
Kenzie Bermudez made 20 saves, four shy of a career-high, as she recorded the most since her freshman season during the 2019 campaign.
Â
MSOE scored six times in the opening half, and added a pair in the second period for the eight-goal win. The Raiders also led in shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks.
Â
Alverno (2-2-0, 0-2-0 NACC) will be back home again on Wednesday afternoon, when the Inferno host the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech beginning at 4:30 p.m.
