ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Alverno soccer team opened the conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday evening, as the Inferno traveled to take on the host Rockford Regents in Illinois. For Alverno it was its first conference match south of the Illinois border since the fall of 2019, as the match tonight resulted in an 8-0 loss for the red and white.

The Inferno had one shot on the contest, with that coming off the foot of junior
Alo Cervantes.

Kenzie Bermudez made a season-high 13 saves in the effort, eclipsing the previous mark of 11 set during the season-opener at Eureka.

Rockford scored the opening goal of the contest in the 25th minute, and added two more to take a 3-0 lead into the halftime break. After netting its fourth goal in the opening seconds of the second half, the Regents tallied four more goals as the home team capped off the scoring in the 82nd minute.

Alverno (2-1, 0-1 NACC) will return home on Saturday afternoon, when the team plays host to the MSOE Raiders at 1 p.m. on the Alverno Soccer Field.
