Jankowski Collects Three Hits in Road Doubleheader at Wisconsin Lutheran

MILWAUKEE – Freshman Sara Jankowski had three hits for the Inferno in a conference doubleheader against the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors on Friday afternoon, but it was not enough offense for the Inferno as Alverno fell in both ends of the doubleheader, 11-0 and 8-0.

For Jankowski, her three hits brings her season batting average up to .375 with a dozen hits in 32 at bats on the season. In addition to Jankowski's three hits, the Inferno got a single from senior Lauren Greif, to give her 16 hits on the year, second-most on the team.

Junior Natalie Akin got the start in the opener and allowed six earned runs over two inning of work, before Greif came on for the final two innings as she yielded three runners across the plate. Akin ended the game striking out three batters, while Greif struck out a pair in the opener.

In game two, sophomore Izzy Torres got the start and allowed five earned runs over three inning of work, before Greif came on again in the fourth inning and struck out one batter while allowing just one baserunner in the form of a hit batter.

Game 1
After a three-batter top of the first inning, Wisconsin Lutheran got right to work with three hits from the bats of their first three batters to take a 2-0 lead. A six run second inning, fueled by a pair of Inferno errors, gave the home team Warriors an eight-run advantage.

After another hitless top of the third, the Warriors scored three more runs on four hits to open up an 11-0 lead.

Jankowski led off the top of the fourth inning by legging out an infield single, but she was unable to make her way around the bases as Alverno was held scoreless through four innings.

Alverno was able to hold the Warriors off the board in the bottom of the fourth, and stranded a pair of runners on base in the process as Greif worked her way out of trouble.

The Inferno went down in order in the top of the fifth as Wisconsin Lutheran picked up the game one win by an 11-0 score.

Game 2
The Inferno got its offense short circuited in the top of the first inning following a leadoff single to the opposite field off the bat of Jankowski. As freshman Izzy Luevano attempted to get down a bunt, the Warriors were able to turn a double play against the fastest pair on the Inferno roster. With two down, Torres walked but was left on first as the inning came to a close with the next batter.

In the bottom of the first inning, Wisconsin Lutheran got a one-out hit off of Torres, but the sophomore for the Inferno was able to leave her stranded on second base.

The Warriors broke through on the scoreboard first with a three-spot in the bottom of the second, with the big blow of the frame coming in the form of a two-run double with one out.

Jankowski got her second hit of the game, and third of the day, with a single down the left field line but was stranded on base. The Warriors added five more runs in the bottom of the third, as Alverno struggled defensively with three errors in the inning as Wisconsin Lutheran opened up an eight-run lead.

Greif reached on a two-out single to second base in the top of the fourth, and later came on to pitch in the bottom of the inning. She struck out the first batter she faced, before hitting a batter, but got out of the inning on a pair of catches by her outfield behind her.

A 1-2-3 fifth inning, sealed the win for Wisconsin Lutheran by an 8-0 score.
