Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE – The Alverno softball season came to a close on Saturday afternoon as the Inferno played host to the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors on the Alverno Softball Field. The first game saw Alverno register nine hits and tied through the third inning, and within one run heading to the sixth before the Warriors scored 12 runs in the final two innings for the 17-4 win. In the second game, Wisconsin Lutheran built up a 15-0 lead before Alverno broke out the shutout with a pair in the bottom of the fifth.

The Inferno combined for 14 hits on the afternoon with freshman
Sara Jankowski once again leading the way with four hits, while also scoring a run and driving in a run. Sophomore
Izzy Torres had three hits, including her fifth home run of the season as she capped off her season with two RBIs for a team-high 16 on the year.

Natalie Akin had two hits, while freshman
Maggie Wilmot also collected a pair of hits including the first home run of her career. Senior
Lauren Greif had one hit during her final day with the team, while sophomore
Zimri Lemonds and freshman
Izzy Luevano also picked up base hits on the afternoon.

Ashley Flores scored two runs and walked once, while freshman
Lily Kostka also scored a run.

In the circle, Akin got the start in the opener and pitched well allowing just three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings while striking out three batters. Greif also struck out a pair in her 1 1/3 innings worth of work, as she allowed just one earned run on the game.

The game two pitching saw Torres get the start, allowing eight earned runs over 3 2/3 innings. Wilmot was next to pitch, as she allowed two earned while getting through her 2/3 inning. Akin came on to finish things off as she allowed just one hit and needed 13 pitches to get through the final 2/3 innings.

Game 1
Akin faced just four batters in the top of the first inning, but unfortunately for the right-hander the third batter hit a home run to give Wisconsin Lutheran an early lead.

Luevano reached on a two base error with one down in the bottom of the first and was moved up to third on a groundout, but the Warriors were able to avoid damage.

After a scoreless second, the Warriors scored a run, but Akin was able to limit the damage as she stranded the bases full of green and white uniforms.

In the bottom of the second, the Inferno were able to tie the game as Flores reached on a dropped popup before Jankowski singled on the first pitch she saw. Two batters later Greif singled to score Flores, before Akin singled to load the bases. Up next was Torres, who connected on a base knock up the middle to plate Jankowski and knot the score at two.

Wisconsin Lutheran got the lead right back in the top of the fourth with a three-run frame to bring Alverno up in the bottom of the inning. On the second pitch of the inning, Wilmot sent a home solo home run over the left field fence to pull the Inferno back within two.

Akin worked around a one-out double in the top of the fifth, and stranded her in scoring position to bring the Inferno back to the plate. On an 0-2 pitch with one out, Torres connected on her fifth home run of the season with nobody on to pull Alverno back within one at 5-4.

The top of the sixth saw the Warriors take advantage of four defensive miscues by the Inferno with a six-run frame to take an 11-4 lead. Wisconsin Lutheran added six more runs in the top of the seventh to runaway late with the 17-4 victory.

Game 2
Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first again on an error, wild pitch, and a double. They added to their lead with a four-run second inning to take a 5-0 lead.
Torres walked on a 3-2 pitch to lead off the bottom of the second, but was later erased on a double play to end the inning.

The Warriors scored one more run in the third, before putting up a crooked number with a six spot in the top of the fourth, aided by another four Alverno errors in the field.

Jankowski led off the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle, and three batters later, Torres singled to put runners on the corner. Torres moved up to second on a wild pitch, but the Warriors were able to get out of the inning unscathed heading to the fifth.

Wisconsin Lutheran tacked on three more insurance runs, as Alverno committed two more errors in the field to take a 15-run lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Wilmore reached on a one-out single before Kostka ran for her. Two batters later, Flores walked on four pitches to put a pair of runners on base. Jankowski doubled to the opposite field to plate one run, followed by a base hit by Luevano to score the second Alverno run.

Greif was up with two down and with two runners on base, but was unable to keep the rally going in her final collegiate at bat, flying out to centerfield on a 1-1 pitch.
