Soccer Unable to Keep Pace with Wisconsin Lutheran

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Alverno soccer team wrapped up the first half of its regular season on Saturday evening, traveling to local foe Wisconsin Lutheran for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference North Division matchup, falling to its host by a 5-0 score.
 
The Inferno registered one shot on the match, with that coming from junior Ricki Nelson. The Inferno were also able to take one corner kick, while as a team combining for 11 saves.
 
Sophomore Kenzie Bermudez made the first six saves of the night for the Inferno as she got the start and played the first half. Freshman Becky Brittell played the second half and made five saves, during her second collegiate appearance.
 
Five members of the Inferno lineup played all 90 minutes, including juniors Angela Chobanian and Ziri Hernandez-Bustos, sophomore Angie Reutgen, and freshmen Nia Brittain and Alondra Guadarrama.
 
Wisconsin Lutheran got its first three goals of the game in the 13th, 25th, and 32nd minutes to take a three-goal lead. The Warriors added a pair of second-half insurance goals with tallies in the 52nd and 57th minutes.
 
Wisconsin Lutheran notched 32 shots on the night, with 16 of those shots coming on-target. The Warriors took 11 corner kicks, and were not forced to make a save on the night as the team picked up the clean sheet victory.
 
Alverno (0-4, 0-4 NACC North) will open the second half of the regular season on Wednesday, when the team hosts Marian beginning at 4 p.m. on the Alverno Soccer Field. The second half will see Alverno play three of the four contests at home. Only two spectators per student-athlete are permitted, with social distancing or masking expected; fans are also encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets as the bleachers at the soccer field will be closed to spectators.
