Alverno Tripped Up against Concordia Chicago in Non-Conference Finale

Box Score MILWAUKEE – The Alverno softball team played host to the Concordia Chicago Cougars in a non-conference softball game on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars won the game by a 12-0 score in five innings, the Inferno and Cougars did not play game two.
 
Sophomore Izzy Torres picked up Alverno's lone hit of the game with an opposite-field single in the bottom of the fourth. Junior Dom Hudson also made her collegiate softball debut with an at bat in the fifth inning, and struck out in that at bat.
 
Senior Lauren Greif got the start in the circle for the Inferno and was unable to get out of the first inning as she allowed seven runs in the opening frame. Junior Natalie Akin came on and allowed three inherited runners to score, but was able to limit more runs as she left two runners on base.
 
After Alverno went down in order in the bottom of the first, Akin walked the first two batters of the second inning before getting out of the frame with a strikeout and a groundout to leave the bases full.
 
Akin reached to lead off the bottom of the second, but was stranded on first. In the top of the third, Concordia Chicago added one more run to take an eight-run lead. Akin stranded the bases full in the top of the fourth as she held the Cougars off the scoreboard.
 
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Torres singled with one down, but was erased on a double play as Akin drilled a line drive to the Concordia second baseman as Torres was doubled off on the play.
 
The Cougars added four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 12-0 lead. Alverno went down in order in the bottom of the fifth as the Cougars picked up the win.
 
Alverno (1-24, 0-16 NACC North) will wrap-up the season this weekend, beginning with Wisconsin Lutheran on the road this Friday at 3 p.m. The Inferno will serve as host to the Warriors on Saturday afternoon beginning at 12 p.m.
