Soccer Wraps Up Road Slate with Matchup at MSOE Under the Lights

MILWAUKEE – The Alverno soccer team wrapped up the road half of its eight-game schedule on Wednesday evening, traveling to nearby Milwaukee School of Engineering for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference North Division matchup against the Raiders. MSOE won the match by a 17-0 score.

Freshman goalkeeper Kiersten Weber made her in-goal debut for the Inferno and made 16 stops while playing all 90 minutes between the posts for Alverno.

Offensively the Inferno were unable to record a shot against the stout Raider defense, as neither of MSOE's two goalkeepers needed to make a save while splitting the game with 45 minutes apiece.

In addition to Weber, five other members of the Inferno played the full 90 as juniors Angela Chobanian, Ziri Hernandez-Bustos, and Shaye Wolfe in addition to sophomore Kenzie Bermudez and freshman Nia Brittain played the entirety of the match.

Freshman Alondra Guadarrama was credited with 87 minutes played, while sophomore Katie Shipley played 86 minutes.

The Raiders opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the early stages of the 11th minute and took a 6-0 lead into the halftime break. After the Intermission, MSOE scored 11 more goals in the second half to extend the lead to 17, capping off the scoring with a strike at the 88:04 mark of the contest.

Alverno (0-6, 0-6 NACC North) will be back home for its final two matches of the season beginning with the make-up contest with Marian on Friday afternoon, beginning at 4 p.m. The Inferno will then host Edgewood in the season finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. on the Alverno Soccer Field. There will be a live video stream and live stats of both games at Athletics.Alverno.edu. There will be no audio commentary of the game on Friday.
