MILWAUKEE – The Alverno soccer team played its first home game since October 30, 2019 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference North Division matchup against the Lakeland Muskies. The Inferno fell to their finned foes by a 4-0 margin.

The score was even at the halftime break, but Lakeland was able to strike four times in the second stanza for the shutout victory. Alverno was able to muster eight shots offensively, with six of those coming on frame. Junior
Shaye Wolfe led the team with four shots, including three shots on goal, while classmate
Verania Ortiz took a pair of shots including one on frame.

Also adding to Alverno's shot total was sophomore
Katie Shipley, and freshman
Nia Brittain, as the pair both put their shots on the target. Lakeland's goalkeeper played all 90 minutes and stopped the six Alverno shot's on goal.

In goal for the Inferno, was junior
Kenzie Bermudez, who made her third start of the season, as she notched seven saves on 10 shots on frame. Freshman
Becky Brittell made her first appearance for the Inferno, and stopped two shots while yielding the final Lakeland goal.

Ashley Flores made their season debuts during the home opener. Six members of the Inferno played all 90 minutes as Wolfe and Brittain, along with junior
Angela Chobanian, sophomores
Faith Josko and
Angie Reutgen, and freshman
Alondra Guadarrama played the full slate. Freshman
Sofia McLaughlin came off for a brief spell in the second half and was credited with 89 minutes played.

The first half was even between the two sides, who had met 10 days earlier in Plymouth, and the score showed as the game was scoreless through the first 45 minutes. Bermudez made three saves for Alverno, while Lakeland was forced to make a pair of stops.

In the second half, Lakeland scored in the 53rd and 63rd minutes, with the first coming off of a pass and the second off of a corner kick. The lead was extended to three in the 69th minute on a giveaway by the Inferno. The fourth goal came off of a mad scramble in front of the Alverno goal mouth, which was banked off the inside of the left post and into the back of the net to cap off the scoring.

Alverno (0-3-0, 0-3-0 NACC North) will be back in action this Saturday, when the team travels to Wisconsin Lutheran for a matchup under the lights against the Warriors. Alverno will make their way to the nearby Wauwatosa campus for a 7:00 p.m. start on the Warriors Soccer Field.
