Inferno Battle Warriors in Final Friday Matchup of the Season

MILWAUKEE – The Alverno basketball team took started its final road weekend of the season against the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors at the Recreation Complex and fell to its hosts by a score of 81-27.
 
Leading the way for the Inferno was sophomore Keeshya Bellows, who tallied a game-high nine points while freshman Vorian Wilcox was second on the team with seven points on the evening. Wilcox led the team with 10 rebounds with five each coming on the offensive and defensive glass. Both Wilcox and Bellows had two blocks and one steal apiece.
 
Three members of the Inferno squad added three points apiece, with senior Mikayla Tessay, junior Kay Cooper and freshman Courtney Zarda all adding a three-spot on the scoresheet. Sophomore Angie Reutgen had one bucket and added seven rebounds as she was second on the team behind Wilcox.
 
Wilcox and Cooper led the team with two assists each, while senior Dom Hudson led the Inferno with two steals. Freshman Sofia Jorgensen also got on the scoresheet with four rebounds and one assist on the contest.
 
The Inferno got points in the first half from Bellows, Reutgen and Wilcox and trailed 43-8 at the break.
 
In the third quarter, the Inferno added another six points as Bellows, Tessay and Cooper got on the scoreboard.
 
The fourth quarter saw Alverno hang with the Warriors, as the Inferno scored 13 of their 27 points in the final stanza. Wilcox got a free throw, followed by a Zarda three-pointer from the elbow before another Wilcox toss from the charity stripe. Bellows chipped in with a layup before back-to-back shots off the glass by Wilcox. Cooper capped off the scoring with a pair of free throws with 95 seconds left in the game as the Warriors ran away with the 81-27 victory.
 
Alverno (0-7, 0-7 NACC) will be back in action again tomorrow evening, when the team makes a return trip to Wisconsin Lutheran for its final road contest of the regular season. Tip is at 5 p.m. from the Recreation Complex.
