MILWAUKEE – The Alverno volleyball team played a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matches on Friday and Saturday, as the Inferno visited the MSOE Raiders and hosted the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks on Saturday.

Alverno dropped both matches by 3-0 scores, falling to the Raiders by the margins of 25-15, 25-15, 25-17. Against the Scarlet Hawks, the Inferno fell 25-15, 25-8, and 25-9.

Friday vs. MSOE
Freshman
Rolin West led the Inferno with 11 kills, while also picking up a match-high 12 digs. She added one block in the effort as she was second on the team in hitting with a .174. Sophomore
Jenna Flayter was the team leader in hitting percentage as she connected on .429, with seven kills in 14 swings. Flayter also contributed with one aces, and three blocks to go along with three digs.

Lending a hand to the offensive effort was sophomore
Selena Upshur, who picked up five kills on 30 swings, and also had eight digs on the defensive side of the ball. Senior
Alex McMath had 19 assists and one kill, as she was second on the team with 11 digs on the defensive side of the ball.

Saturday vs. Illinois Tech
Against the Scarlet Hawks of Illinois Tech, as the Inferno returned home to take on the Scarlet Hawks, the Inferno were once again led by West with eight kills on 35 swings. West was also tied for the team lead with 10 digs on the effort and chipped in with a pair of assists.

Flayter was second on the team with five kills to go along with two assists and the team's lone service ace, while helping the defensive effort with a pair of digs. McMath had three kills on the afternoon, and added 15 assists to go along with her team-leading 10 digs.

Upshur had another four kills added to her season total, as she led the team with two solo blocks for the team's lone stands at the net. Upshur picked up nine digs on the match defensively, while leading the team offensively with a .125 hitting percentage.

Sophomore
Kiara Ellison had five digs on the match for the Inferno after notching four the night prior against MSOE, while classmate
Zahria Green also played the full contest for the Inferno.

Alverno (1-9, 0-7 NACC) will get back to action on Friday, when the team takes on Aurora beginning at 7 p.m. on October 15. That will be followed by a tri-match on Saturday, October 16 at Rockford as Alverno plays the host Regents as well as a non-conference tilt against Mount Mary.
