MEQUON, Wis. – The Alverno basketball team continued its 2020-21 campaign with a trip to the John R. Buuck Fieldhouse in Ozaukee County to take on the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons. The Inferno had three players score at least nine points as Alverno fell to its hosts by a 72-40 score.

Sophomore
Keeshya Bellows led the Inferno with a 10-point effort while classmate
Angie Reutgen and freshman
Vorian Wilcox each poured in nine points apiece. Wilcox led the rebounding effort with seven caroms, while Reutgen snagged six boards. Bellows led the Inferno with four helpers while both she and Reutgen had one block apiece.

Kay Cooper had four points and four rebounds off the bench, while freshman
Courtney Zarda connected on one long-range shot. Senior
Dom Hudson had one bucket in the effort. Freshman
Alayna Smith played seven minutes while freshman
Sofia Jorgensen made her collegiate debut, and junior Mozeya Jones made her Inferno debut.

Alverno was given the opportunity to shoot free throws to open the game following an administrative technical foul against the Falcons to open the game. Reutgen opened the scoring with 1-of-2 from the line, before Bellows connected on a jumper to put Alverno ahead, 3-0. Concordia tied the game at three and scored the next 14 points to take an 11-point lead.

Zarda drilled a three-pointer to trim the deficit to eight, before Cooper followed with another three ball to pull the Inferno within two possessions. The Falcons took a 10-point lead into the second quarter and took a 19-point lead into the halftime break as Bellows connected on a last-second layup to close the opening half.

Trailing by a 36-17 score at halftime, the Inferno got as close as 18 in the third quarter following a three-point play by Wilcox on a layup and an and-one free throw. The Falcons extended its lead down the stretch of the fourth quarter and finished the contest with a 72-40 win.

Alverno (0-3, 0-3 NACC) will be back at the Buuck Fieldhouse in Mequon on Saturday evening, for a 5 p.m. start against the Falcons.
