Reutgen's Career-High 14 Not Enough in Second Game of Marian Series

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Alverno basketball team was led by sophomore Angie Reutgen, who scored a career-high 14 points on Saturday evening, but her total was not enough to help the Inferno to a conference victory inside the Sadoff Gymnasium, as Alverno fell to host Marian by a 74-43 margin.

Reutgen's career-high 14 points, eclipsed her previous career-high of nine points set a night prior against the Sabres. Senior Dom Hudson added a season-best 10 points, including a team-best six free throws while also grabbing 11 rebounds as she secured her first double-double in her Alverno career.

Freshman Courtney Zarda added six points and a three steals, while classmate Vorian Wilcox added five points and added seven rebounds. Sophomore Keeshya Bellows picked up three rebounds in limited minutes while also picking up one block.

Junior Kay Cooper added four points and a team-best four steals, while senior Mikayla Tessay had two points. Freshman Kiara Ellison scored the first basket of her young collegiate career and also grabbed one rebound and chipped in with an assist.

Alverno opened the game with a quick three-pointer as Zarda drained a three from the top of the arc off a quick feed by Hudson. However, Marian responded with 13 unanswered points to take a 10-point advantage. Alverno fell behind by 11 but closed out the opening quarter with back-to-back layups by Wilcox and Hudson to head into the second period trailing by a 16-9 score.

Alverno still trailed by eight midway through the second quarter, but a 7-0 run by the Sabres extended the home team's lead to 15. Reutgen knocked down back-to-back baskets to make it a four-possession game once again but Marian regained its 15-point lead heading into the halftime break.

Marian extended its lead to 24 by the end of the third quarter, while Alverno opened up the fourth stanza by another three-ball from Zarda. The Sabres answered back with a three of their own before extending their lead to 34, Alverno got as close as 30 down the stretch before the Sabres extended once again to win by a 74-43 margin.

Alverno (0-2, 0-2 NACC) returns to action on Friday evening at 7 p.m., when the team visits Concordia Wisconsin in Mequon, Wisconsin.
