Inferno Stumble at Home in Conference Matchup vs. Concordia Chicago

MILWAUKEE – The Alverno basketball team fell at home to the Concordia Chicago Cougars on Wednesday evening by the score of 84-55 inside the Reiman Gymnasium.
 
Freshman Keeshya Bellows registered her third double-double of the season with 14 points and her second-highest rebound total of the season with 12 caroms. Classmate Eniya Madden had 19 points with 10 in the first half before capping off the night with nine in the second half. Madden along with senior Sara Redlin and junior Dom Hudson each had one steal on the night.
 
Junior Mikayla Tessay had a season-best eight points on 4-of-6 shooting, while also recording two assists. Hudson and junior Alicia Hornbuckle each had four assists to lead the way, while Madden had three. Redlin registered six points on a pair of three-pointers, while sophomore Brittney Hondel had four points to go along with five rebounds.
 
Alverno trailed by seven after the first quarter by a 19-12 score before being outscored 22-8 in the second period. The Inferno trailed 41-20 at the break as the team shot a meager 25.8% from the floor in contrast to Concordia Chicago's 47.1% from the field.
 
In the second half, the Inferno were able to keep the final 20 minutes of play closer as Alverno was outscored 21-19 in the third quarter, and were outscored by a 22-16 margin in the fourth as the Cougars pulled away for the 29-point victory.
 
Concordia Chicago capitalized on 19 Inferno turnovers, accounting for 32 of the Cougar points on the night, while the Cougars also took advantage with 18 fast break points on the evening.
 
Alverno (3-13, 3-8 NACC) will be back on the road for the first time in two weeks, when the Inferno take a trip to Edgewood on Saturday afternoon for a 2:15 p.m. start against the Eagles at the Todd Wehr Edgedome in Madison.
