MILWAUKEE – The Alverno soccer team opened up the 2019 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference portion of its schedule at home on Wednesday afternoon as the Inferno welcomed the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons to the Alverno Soccer Field. The team fell to the Falcons by a score of 11-1 as sophomore Shaye Wolfe scored the lone tally for the Inferno on a penalty shot.
Wolfe scored the lone goal for the Inferno to give her eight goals on the season and extends her point streak to seven consecutive games as the defending NACC Student-Athlete of the week continues the hot start to her season. Wolfe registered the lone two shots on the afternoon for the Inferno.
In goal, freshman netminder Kenzie Bermudez recorded 17 saves on the match while facing 28 shots on goal and 56 shots in total against one of the top teams in the NACC. Bermudez now has 54 saves on the season through her first seven career contests.
The Falcons got on the board quickly as Concordia Wisconsin tallied the game's opening goal just 66 seconds into the contest. The Falcons added another goal just three minutes later before taking a 5-0 lead into the halftime break.
Concordia Wisconsin added six more goals to take an 11-0 advantage in the 65th minute.
In the 75th minute of play, Wolfe made a great individual effort to get around a defender but was taken down in the box and awarded a penalty kick opportunity. The sophomore capitalized to break up the starting goalkeeper's shutout, as she was then lifted for another goalkeeper allowing just one goal without registering a save.
The Falcons held a 56-2 advantage in shots, while also being awarded nine corner kicks. Saves were 17-1 in favor of the Inferno, with the Falcons called for eight fouls against Alverno's four.
Alverno (4-4-0, 0-1-0 NACC) will get right back to conference play this Sunday, when the team travels to Plymouth, Wisconsin for a 3 p.m. league matchup against the Muskies of Lakeland University. Last year's matchup with the Muskies was close at Alverno with Lakeland edging out a 3-1 victory over the Inferno.
