MILWAUKEE – The Alverno volleyball team hosted the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons on Friday evening inside the Reiman Gymnasium and fell in straight sets to its guest by the set scores of 25-18, 25-15, 25-13.

The team was led by a trio on offense as junior Neilee Newton and freshman Kierra Sherlock were tied for the team lead with six kills apiece while junior Ari Rehberg put down five kills. Alverno also connected on eight service aces on the match as Rehberg along with junior Morgan Lemner and sophomore Alex McMath all had two aces, while Newton and Sherlock added one each.

McMath led the team with 16 assists, while also connecting on one kill and a pair of digs. The team leader in digs was Newton with nine as Lemner was one off the pace with eight. Sophomore Isabelle Gemza had six digs to go along with her one ace on the evening. Rehberg and Sherlock combined for the team's lone block.

Freshman Kenzi Kaminski had one dig, with senior Melanie Coffey adding two attacking swings in the offensive effort.

Concordia Wisconsin jumped out to an early lead in the first few points of the opening set, before Alverno chipped away to close the gap. The Inferno were only able to get as close as 19-18 behind a service ace from McMath before the Falcons closed out the set after a timeout.

In the second set the Inferno kept it close with one of the league favorites as it was Sherlock to connect on a kill to even the score in the early-going at six. After a service error by the Inferno gave the serve back to the Falcons, Concordia Wisconsin went on a lengthy run and swelled its lead to 22-14 before Alverno called timeout. However it was not enough as the Falcons took a 2-0 match lead.

In the third it was Alverno to get the first three points of the set as Lemner notched a pair of aces. Concordia was able to tie the set at five before Rehberg returned the favor and tied the set again at eight. After five unanswered by the Falcons, the Inferno got service back on an error by Concordia Wisconsin before the Falcons finished the set and the match with a strong offensive outburst, closing out the set on a 12-5 rally.
