Soccer Falls to Crosstown Foe MSOE in Friday Make-Up Game

MILWAUKEE – On a brisk Friday afternoon on the Alverno Soccer Field, the Inferno played host to fellow Milwaukee foe Milwaukee School of Engineering for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup in a make-up game from the previously postponed matchup from October 12. The Raiders of MSOE won the match by a 13-0 score.

Alverno had just one shot on the afternoon, with that coming off the foot of freshman Alo Cervantes in the second half. Sophomores Angela Chobanian and Shaye Wolfe led the defensive effort in the middle of the field, while junior Alexandra Donowa, senior Mackenzie Mathies and freshman Sami Martinez all lent a hand on the defensive back line against the high-octane Raider offense.

In goal freshman Kenzie Bermudez made 14 saves on the contest, to increase her season total to 203 as she becomes the fourth goalkeeper in all of NCAA Division III to reach the 200-plus save mark on the season.

The Raiders scored early in the match at the 2:13 mark to take a 1-0 lead before adding six more goals in the opening half to take a 7-0 lead into the halftime break. MSOE potted six more goals in the second half with the final goal of the match coming in the 73rd minute.

Alverno (4-12-0, 0-9-0 NACC) plays again tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., when the Inferno visit Illinois Tech for their final road match of the season. The Inferno will be home for their final two matches on Tuesday against Rockford and Wednesday against Benedictine in the season finale.
