MILWAUKEE, WIS.—Alverno College basketball (5-13, 2-11 NACC) fell in NACC competition to Benedictine 63-42.

The Eagles jumped out on the Inferno scoring nine unanswered points until Karli Selear recorded a free throw to get the Alverno scoring going. After an Inferno timeout, Kendra Patterson connected on a layup to cut the Eagles lead to 15-3. Benedictine controlled a 19-3 advantage heading to the second quarter.

Benedictine continued their momentum as they held a 27-9 effort at the 6:17 mark. Mackenzie Mathies hit from beyond the three point arc to knot the game at 31-12. Later, a three point play from Karli Selear saw the Eagles lead cut to 33-15 heading to the intermission break.

In the third quarter Gabby Hood contributed with a three point play of her own to shrink the Eagle effort to 15 at 35-20. Alverno ended the third with a quick 5-0 run to go into the last quarter of play down 46-32.

Alverno continued to chip away at the Eagle lead in the final quarter with two made jump shots from Kendra Patterson and Karli Selear. A final three pointer for Benedictine saw the Eagles take the victory by a final score of 63-42.

Offensively, the Inferno were led by Karli Selear who finished with 16 points and five rebounds. Kendra Patterson and Dani Hood both contributed with six points while Melissa Weyand collected eight rebounds. The Inferno squad shot an impressive 71 percent from behind the charity stripe.

Alverno College hits the road to face Lakeland on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 4:15 p.m.
