Strong second set not enough on Senior Day

Box Score

MILWAUKEE, WIS.--The Alverno College volleyball team fell to Dominican University Saturday afternoon 3-1 in NACC play.

The match began with neither team able to gain the advantage. A 3-0 run for the Stars helped Dominican take the lead at 13-11. After a Dominican service ace, a Stars kill forced an Inferno timeout at 18-14. Domincan went on to claim the first set of the day 25-17.

The back and forth match continued to progress in the second set. Two consecutive 3-0 runs for the Inferno helped Alverno hold a 18-12 advantage. A bad set by Dominican and an attack error for the Stars knotted the match at one game a piece.

Dominican quickly started the third set with a 12-3 advantage. The sizeable lead for the Stars was too great for the Inferno to mount a comeback. Dominican took the third set 25-13.

The fourth set began with Alverno holding a strong 13-11 lead. However, five unanswered points for Dominican saw the lead swing in their favor at 16-13. Alverno made a late push after a Dominican timeout but a final Star kill claimed the match for Dominican.

Cailey Jeske recorded 14 kills for the Inferno while Arianna Rehberg, Jessica Wewers and Melissa Weyand added six kills. Defensively, Lauryn Young tallied six block assists.

Alverno College wrap up the season from Reiman Gymnasium on Tuesday, Oct. 24 with a match with Wisconsin Lutheran.
