MARQUETTE, Michigan -- Alverno College dropped its 2016 season opener to 25th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 7-3, inside the Superior Dome at the Finlandia Dome Tournament Friday evening.

The Inferno (0-1) trailed the Titans (1-0) by a run after the first inning, but Kristin Holub singled to left field to score Ashlie Rossi and tie the game.

UW-Oshkosh answered with a three-run homer in the bottom half of the inning to go ahead for good.

Samantha Chapnick and Olivia Schneider each recorded RBI-singles in the third and fourth innings to plate Mackenzie Mathies and Holub and cut the lead to one, but the Titans responded with three insurance runs in the fifth for the final scores of the contest.

Schneider (0-1) registered a complete game in the circle for the Inferno with four strikeouts and eight hits allowed, while Kaitlyn Krol (1-0) picked up the win in five innings of work for UWO with three Ks and seven hits allowed.

Alverno returns to play with three games at the tournament tomorrow at 8, 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET.
