Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE -- A doubleheader sweep of crosstown rival Milwaukee School of Engineering was won by host Alverno College Wednesday afternoon at a cold and windy Alverno Field.
The Inferno topped the Raiders 5-3 and 3-2 in the twin bill for the host team's fourth series sweep this season.
Megan Rossi batted in a pair of runs in the bottom of the first in the opener, but the Raiders tied the game with a pair the following inning.
Alexis Botsford gave the Inferno the lead back in the second with an RBI-single to left-center field, and Kristin Holub and Ashlie Rossi each had RBIs in the fourth to cap off the home team's scoring.
Erin Dulek (7-4) scattered five hits and struck out eight in the complete-game victory, while Shannon Curtis was tabbed with the loss for the Raiders (10-14, 3-7 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference).
A pair of runs were scored in the bottom of the first for the Inferno (16-8, 6-4 NACC) in the nightcap as Ashlie Rossi singled off the center field fence and scored Botsford and Holub.
MSOE answered with two in the fourth to tie the score at 2-2, and the game looked to be headed for extra innings before Olivia Schneider led off the bottom of the seventh with an eight-pitch walk.
Schneider advanced second on a Mary Kate Sulikowski sacrifice bunt, and a wild pitch by Curtis brought the winning run to third with two outs.
A speedy Botsford then blasted a hard grounder into and over the Raiders' shortstop to score Schneider in walk-off fashion.
In addition to scoring the winning run, Schneider (8-3) earned the complete-game victory in the circle with 11 strikeouts -- just one off her career high.
Curtis (6-9) picked up the game-two loss after 1.1 innings of relief allowing the single unearned run in the seventh.
Next up for Alverno is a series at Lakeland College Saturday that starts off an eight-game road swing.
