Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE -- Sam Kasprzak's three-run home run proved to be the difference in Alverno College's 6-3 game-one victory over visiting Dominican University Thursday afternoon at Alverno Field.
The host Inferno (13-7, 3-3 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference) dropped game two, 9-1, to the Stars (17-5, 5-1 NACC).
Kristin Holub put Alverno on the board first with an RBI-double down the left-field line in the bottom of the third before Kasprzak's second-career homer put the hosts up 4-0.
The teams countered with a run apiece in the fifth, and Dominican added two in the sixth before Alverno plated an insurance run in the bottom half on a Stars' illegal pitch.
Ashlie Rossi joined Kasprzak with two hits apiece in the opener and added an RBI.
Erin Dulek (6-3) had three strikeouts to just one walk in the complete-game victory, while the Stars' Haley Locher (6-4) was tagged for the loss.
In the nightcap Dominican led 1-0 entering the fifth, but scored eight runs over the final three innings to keep the game out of the Inferno's reach.
Megan Rossi doubled in the bottom of the sixth to score Alexis Botsford for the lone Inferno run of the contest.
Michelle Behrens (7-1) allowed just two hits over five innings to pick up the win, while Olivia Schneider (6-3) surrendered five runs in five innings of work in the loss.
Alverno surpassed last season's win total with today's game-one win and is now halfway through the season.
Next up for the Inferno is a NACC doubleheader at Concordia University Chicago Saturday at 12 p.m.
