WAUKESHA, Wis. -- A 3-2 game-two victory over host Carroll University gave Alverno College a doubleheader split after losing 6-0 in game one Tuesday evening at Kilgour Field.

The victory in the nightcap set a new school wins record for the visiting Inferno (19-11), which broke the former mark set when the 2013 squad went 18-18.

After just three hits and a pair of errors in the opener, Alverno got off to a quick start in game two as Alexis Botsford led off the game with a double and scored on an Ashlie Rossi RBI-single three batters later.

The Pioneers (18-10) evened the score in the bottom of the third, but Megan Rossi blasted a solo home run the next inning to put the Inferno back on top.

A pair of costly Pioneer errors in the sixth led to another Inferno run scored by Kristin Holub -- which proved to be the game winner -- after three hits in the bottom half led to Carroll's second and final score of the game.

Left-hander Olivia Schneider (10-4) won her 10th of the season as she struck out six in 5.2 innings, and Erin Dulek recorded the final four outs for her first save of the season. Carroll's Baylea Meredith (7-3) was tagged with the loss.

Dulek (8-6) surrendered five runs (three earned) and fanned five batters in the game-one loss, while Natalie Ruechel (11-6) earned the complete-game win for the Pioneers.

"It was exciting to break the school record today," said Alverno Head Coach Kristin Ortman. "We look forward to finishing the season strong."

The Inferno will look to build on its school-record 19 wins with 10 games left on the schedule.

Alverno completes the nonconference portion of its schedule Thursday at Beloit College.
